My attempt of creating a foliage theme artwork in Blender. This took 1 month, I had to do some R&D.
I tried to develop a new Ghibli foliage technique improving from the Lightning Boy method (you can search for '"blender ghibli tree" on youtube), long story short, my method is the same but created using 2D planes, instead of 3D geometry. This method is popular in game engines such as Unreal or Unity. In fact, the technique is called quadmesh to billboard and I used it many time before.
It's a little bit tricky to apply the technique in Blender, but after messing around with Geometry Node I managed to make it work, although they are not very convenient to use. Using 2D is so much better both on performance and aesthetic.
