Does your country celebrate Mid Autumn? I live in Vietnam, and we have the Mid Autumn Festival every year on the 15th of the 8th lunar month. During this occasion, we enjoy eating Moon Cake, which is very delicious, and children have lanterns to play with. Traditionally, lanterns are handmade by artisans and often have shapes resembling animals, stars, and sometimes even sailing ships. As an adult, I still love the nostalgic look of handmade lanterns, as they bring back many childhood memories.
I used Blender to achieve the anime/cartoon look, while modeling and animation were done in Maya. All the elements in this artwork are inspired by the 70s and 80s era in Vietnam. Even the frame is designed to resemble the traditional video ratio of old TVs, as I believe it adds to the overall aesthetic. The video is also perfectly looped.
